Holdener comes to us to raise a few million dollars. He tells us none of the money we will raise goes to pay him anything.

Later, his CFO tells us that in fact he will use the money to pay some of his out-of-pocket expenses. For example, rent.

We couldn’t understand this. If he is using the money to pay his bills, isn’t he in fact, getting paid? What did we expect? “I won’t take the money and put it in my mattress.”
